Nokia Siemens completes takeover of Motorola networks

Nokia Siemens completes takeover of Motorola networks: "(Telecompaper) Nokia Siemens Networks has completed the acquisition of the Motorola networks business from Motorola Solutions for USD 975 million. As of 30 April, responsibility for supporting networks based on Motorola's GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, Wimax and LTE equipment transfers to Nokia Siemens Networks. This includes contracts with 50 operators in 52 countries, as well as the transfer of 6,900 employees to NSN. The acquisition strengthens Nokia Siemens Networks' position in key regions, particularly North America and Japan, as well as with some of the world's major service providers. Based on revenue, the addition of Motorola Networks makes Nokia Siemens Networks the third-largest wireless infrastructure vendor in the US and the leading non-Japanese wireless vendor in Japan, according to NSN. In addition, the acquisition reinforces Nokia Siemens Networks' position as the world's second-largest wireless infrastructure and services provider. Nokia Siemens Networks also is acquiring a number of research and development facilities including sites in the US, China, Russia, India and the UK. The acquisition was first announced in July 2010, but closing was delayed several times, as Motorola faced legal action from its former partner Huawei and the companies awaited approval from Chinese regulatory authorities. The case with Huawei was settled and led to a cut in the takeover price from the original USD 1.2 billion."
