Nokia announces Egypt initiatives

Nokia announces Egypt initiatives: "

Leading mobile technology company Nokia is continuing its efforts in North Africa. Following the Cairo ICT exhibition that ended in late May, the company announced two agreements with Egypt’s Technology and Enterpreneurship Center (TIEC) for mLabs and MobileMonday.

“The next phase of the mobile revolution is all about locally relevant content and services delivered through handheld devices,” said Nokia Middle East Head of Government Relations Jussi Hinkkanen in comments published by the Egyptian Gazette.

“Mobile devices provide the world’s largest service delivery platform and local developers and entrepreneurs have the necessary skills combined with local knowledge to create appealing and economically sustainable services,” Hinkkanen added.

According to Nokia officials in Egypt working on developing the projects, the mLab will support local universities and developers to “improve their mobile business skills and in providing technical assistance to future entrepreneurs.”

Menna Said, one of the few female software designers in Egypt, who works with Microsoft, couldn’t agree more.

“We live in a time when we need more technology and we need it to be developed quickly, so Nokia’s push is only going to benefit Egypt and the overall nature of the country in terms of IT and other things,” she said.
