Verizon debuts 4 new smartphones, including LG Revolution and Motorola Droid X2: "

LG RevolutionVerizon Wireless is expanding its smartphone lineup today with four new products, and as usual, some are more notable than others.

First up is the $249 LG Revolution, the latest Android phone on Big Red to include blazing fast 4G LTE data speeds. The rest of the specs on the Revolution are mid-range for today’s Android phones, with a 4.3-inch screen with 800×480 resolution, a single-core 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, 16GB storage, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Next up is the $199 Motorola Droid X2. Noticeably, the X2 is missing 4G LTE, but it tries to make up for that with a powerful dual-core 1-GHz processor, a 4.3-inch display with 960×540 resolution, an 8-megapixel camera, and 720p HD video recording.

Then we have the $199 Xperia Play by Sony Ericsson, otherwise known as a PlayStation smartphone. It bears a noticeable resemblance to the PlayStation Portable gaming device with its D-Pad and the PlayStation controller’s triangle, square, circle, and X buttons. On the spec side, the device is a little more vanilla. The Xperia Play has a single-core 1-GHz processor, an Adreno 205 GPU for graphics, a 4-inch display with 480×854 resolution, and an 8GB memory card for storage.

Last up, there’s the $149 HTC Trophy — the first Windows Phone 7 handset for Verizon. It predictably looks a lot like other WP7 devices inside and out. It carries a single-core 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.8-inch 480×800 display, a 5-megapixel camera, and 16GB of onboard storage.

In my eyes, none of these devices holds up next to the $249 HTC Thunderbolt or the $299 Samsung Droid Charge, two incredibly powerful phones with 4G LTE capabilities. If I’m signing a two-year contract, I want to future-proof my phone the best I can with the most power and most features.

How about you? Are you interested in picking up any of these phones?
