The technology could help users get reception in areas where one mobile network works better than another. A user can, for instance, switch from the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). That’s like switching from AT&T’s network to Verizon’s. That’s a good trick that could help users stay in touch and it could alleviate complaints to carriers for dropped calls.
SignalSet recently reached a deal for network access with Sprint and T-Mobile. It also said it has a manufacturing agreement with a Fortune 500 company to bring a new telematics service to truckers. That technology lets wireless devices have continuous service by moving between networks to maximize coverage, data transmission speed and redundancy. The first round of funding was led by Vanedge Capital. Other investors are Point B Capital, Globespan Capital Partners and Razorback Capital.
The company was founded by Andrew Buffmire, a former business development director at Sprint PCS and former business development director at the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft. The CEO is Peter van der Gracht. Vanedge partner Divesh Sisodraker said the technology could make it easier to engage in interactive services by extending the ability for those services to stay on the network. SignalSet will used the money for product development, product launch and marketing.
The company has five employees and it was founded in 2008.
