RIM wants Hulu Plus on the Blackberry PlayBook and it also wants everyone to know it wants Hulu Plus on the Blackberry PlayBook, after the streaming video service unceremoniously blocked access to its videos just days after the tablet’s launch.RIM says, we are in conversations with Hulu to bring the Hulu Plus subscription service to BlackBerry PlayBook users……….
Apparently the Blackberry Playbook has been put on a long blacklist of devices that Hulu just plain old won’t play with. But word is there’s a way around the banning that might get your Playbook back in the Hulu game. This isn’t the first time that Hulu has blocked devices from working with their system–apparently, that “blacklist” I mentioned before is actually fairly long–but it’s got plenty of potential users annoyed. Sufficiently annoyed, in fact, that some are trying to find workarounds for the issue, and one in particular seems to be working.Word is that emailing yourself (at least in Gmail) the embed codes is serving as a viable workaround, at least for some, who have reported success. Just go to the Hulu video you want to watch, copy the embed code beneath the space the video would be playing in, then send the embed codes to yourself via email. Just click the resulting links and you can watch the videos you wanted to watch on the device you wanted to watch them on.Hulu blocked BlackBerry PlayBook users from accessing Hulu.com on Thursday, days after the tablet hit stores, according to Business Insider. Hulu.com gives users the five most recent episodes to popular TV shows like The Colbert Report and The Office.Hulu traditionally blocks non-desktop access on tablets, mobile phones, and set-top boxes in order to encourage users to subscribe to its new Hulu Plus service for $7.99/month. Only select devices support Hulu Plus so far, like the iPad, iPhone, Sony Bravia 2010 TVs and Sony Dash viewers, but at CES in January Hulu said it was bringing Hulu Plus to Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S.
All Hulu would really need to do to get these devices in the game is simply to offer up a Hulu app for them. The users would certainly welcome the opportunity to enjoy their favorite Hulu content, and Hulu would expand its user base, which is a necessary component of garnering advertisers or convincing investors that it can compete with the dual looming threats of Netflix and whatever it is Dish Network’s going to do with Blockbuster. For $7.99/month, a price reduced from $9.99 last November, Hulu Plus expands access to include full seasons of TV shows and no commercial breaks. In March, Hulu struck an exclusive deal to offer the entire Criterion collection of cinematic gems like The Tale of Zatoichi, La Pointe Courte, The Blob and Lord of the Flies.
